Tirtha Empul Temple

Tirta Empul Tampaksiring located in the village, District Tampaksiring, Gianyar regency, some 39 km to the east of Denpasar. The location is a valley, surrounded by higher ground and on the western side lies the Palace of the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Name Tirtha Empul contained in an inscription which currently stored at Temple Sakenan, Manukaya village, district Tampaksiring, about 3 km of Pura Tirta Empul. In this inscription, Tirtha Empul called "Tirtha hampul water ri", over time become Tirtha Hampul and eventually became "Tirta Empul". Tirtha hampul water ri means "where the water is rising or patirthan sacred pond where the water is rising."

The spring was later in the year 960 AD (882 Caka) organized into / as a pool that is sanctified by the king "Indrajayasinghawarmadewa" with the name "Tirtha ri hampul water." The data contained in the inscription on the Temple Sakenan as above. In addition to the above data efigrafi, at Pura Tirtha Empul archaeological relics found are as follows:

1. Yoni phallus, is located at page II, above an altar behind a wall (facade) of the gate facing the west.
2. Lion statue, which has been worn / fragile in the face so it is difficult to identify. In mithologi Hindu goddess Durga lion is the vehicle.
3. Tepasana, is a building which at the time of first (formerly), just a patio. Because of these attractions is sanctified by the community, for visitors who are cuntaka not allowed to enter the holy area.
